Christian Charity

Human charity forgives what does not require forgiveness, while Christian charity forgives the real sin/sinner.

Do You Follow Jesus

To follow Jesus means to imitate His virtues, among which obedience certainly ranks first.

Jesus came into the world to accomplish the will of His Father: "It is written of Me that I should do Thy will, O God" (Heb 10,7).

Several times during His life He said it expressly: "I came down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him that sent Me" (Jn 6,38); and He declared that His food, His sustenance, the support of His life, was the fulfilling of His Father's will (cf. ibid. 4,34).

The Christian Life

As you move forward on your spiritual journey, you will discover one very important thing: the Christian response to a daily life situation is not an easy response.

It goes against our human nature to love someone who is hurting us, to obey laws that ask us to sacrifice, or to be patient and kind to stranger.

Are You One of His Disciples?

Just hours before his death, Jesus gathered with his disciples at the last supper, sure enough, Jesus prays for us. He prays for his disciples around him and he prays for his disciples in every age.

Jesus prays as a dying parent might pray for their children, asking God to take care of them. Jesus' great love for us, his children, clearly comes through.

Jesus also prays for the disciples, noting that they will not be part of the world, and the world will not always like them. What does he mean by this Prayer?

The word for "world" is used in different ways in the gospels. When Jesus talks about the world in negative terms (as he is doing in this passage), he's not talking about the world in the sense of the trees or families or factories or farms or food or drink. These are all good.

He is talking about a world in which trees, families, factories, farms are not used in the way they were intended. This can be a dog-eat-dog world, a world that is characterized by violence, a way of living very different from the way Jesus lived and taught.

That's what Jesus means when he talks about the world in negative terms, and in that world his disciples are out of place.

Jesus understands our struggle to live what we believe in while we are in the world.

A Prayer

Jesus, enter within me.
Take complete possession of my being.
Take me with all that I am, all that I feel, all that I have.
Lord Jesus, take the most personal part of my being.
Cure the wound that hurts me so.
Jesus Christ, my Lord, put out the flames of bad memories and feeling.
Leave me a quieted heart.

Lord, remove from my soul the dark clouds of fears, suspicions, and anxieties, and leave me a blue sky.
Remove from me the egotistical, irritable, angry tendencies, and in their place give me your meek and humble heart.
Jesus, take my place.
Replace me, so that you are the One who lives in me.

Let your reactions be my reactions, your attitudes my attitudes, your favorites my favorites.
Those who see me, let them see you, Lord.
Let me be a living photograph of you.

Love Is

Love is swift, sincere, pious, joyful and glad; it is strong, patient, faithful, wise, and forbearing, courageous, and is never self-seeking; for when a man seeks himself, he ceases to love.

Pride

Pride is a very sophisticated adversary, and its most powerful tactic is to persuade you that your own sense of sin and righteousness is an adequate or correct rule of thumb.

Pride confuses us to the point that we really don't know the difference between good and evil.

Marriage

Marriage is larger than any judge or legislator. It's the only social institution with the purpose of giving a mother and a father to every child, and lawmakers ignore that purpose to the detriment of society.
